The news is full of cyber-attacks on organizations large and small, exposing sensitive customer and other information, forcing companies to pay ransoms to retrieve locked data, and creating public relations nightmares. In episode 51 of IABC’s Circle of Fellows broadcast, five IABC Fellows will discuss the PR and internal communication aspects of cyber-attacks, including…
- The steps to prepare for a data breach
- Understanding your IT leaders and keeping the lines of communication open and clear
- Educating your employees about cybersecurity: What they need to know and do
- Recovering trust following a cyberattack: the road to reputational recovery.
IABC Fellows participating in the discussion include Priya Bates, John Deveney, Martha Muzychka, and Sheri Rosen.
You will be able to ask questions and share observations via Twitter by using the hashtag #COF51. The panel is set for noon Eastern Time on Thursday, November 21. If you can’t watch live, catch the video replay on YouTube or subscribe to the Circle of Fellows podcast wherever you get your podcasts for the audio version.
About the Panel
Priya Bates is a senior communication executive who provides strategic internal communication counsel in order to ensure leaders, managers, and employees understand the strategy, believe in the vision, act in accordance with the values, and contribute to business results. She is president of Inner Strength Communications in Toronto and previously served as senior director of Internal Communications at Loblaw Companies Limited.
In 1996, while on the fast track to a partnership in a growing PR agency, John Deveney opted to strike out on his own and form Deveney, a process and a practice that embraces the soundest principles, the newest media, and the most innovative technologies. Based in New Orleans, Deveney is particularly strong in the areas of crisis, healthcare, tourism, and hospitality. (After hurricanes Katrina and Rita, John led the only on-site communication operation and media center for both the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Office of Tourism.)
Martha Muzychka — one of our newest Fellows, from the class of 2019 — speaks, writes, listens, and helps others do the same to make change happen. Martha is a strategic, creative problem solver seeking challenging communications environments where we can make a difference. She helps her clients navigate competing priorities and embrace communications challenges. Martha offers strategic planning, facilitation, and consultation services as well as writing and editing, qualitative research, and policy analysis. Her work has been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally with multiple awards.
Sheri Rosen recently retired from her position as vice president of Employee Communication at Frost Bank in San Antonio, Texas. Before assuming that role, Sheri spent 14 years as president of Rosen Communication Group. For 10 years before that, she was assistant vice president of Employee Communications for USAA, the financial services company. She is accredited by IABC.
