In this episode, Mitchell Levy and his co-host for the month, Todd Van Hoosear (@vanhoosear), Vice President for Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement at HB Agency (http://www.hbagency.com), wrap up the month’s theme on building employee brand by having renowned author and marketing content expert Ann Handley (@marketingprofs) of MarketingProfs (http://www.marketingprofs.com) as their guest. Ann admits being a big fan of employee advocacy and shares that the 40 employees at MarketingProfs are all encouraged and supported to build their own brand, even trained and provided content they can personally share to their own audience. She elaborates on her most recent article about establishing your “voice,” whether corporate or personal. To find your voice, think about three adjectives that best describe who you are. Her best advice for corporate CEOs is for you and your team to sit down together to discuss your voice and how to amplify it through your employees using social. The strength of social lies in giving your audience or those who would do business with you access to people in your company.

The conversation also touches on understanding why some corporations are fearful of letting their employees talk on social. Mitchell notes that it’s ironic how you trust employees to do work for you, and then not trust them to talk about what they do. To overcome this fear, says Todd, it is best to train your people and provide them with opportunities to grow their personal brand. Ann’s advice is to give your employees the tools and right techniques to use social media. Other interesting topics discussed are ways to come up with great marketing content and how to train your employees to craft shareable content.
