John’s company owns and leads all operations at Miami’s Jungle Island (http://www.jungleisland.com). This month’s episodes focus on the importance of driving foot traffic to physical locations in today’s world, and John emphasizes the fact that the use of technology has definitely changed the way we present our business. Still, he quips that having a family experience in the context of a physical location will never be taken out by technology. It is difficult to simulate family bonding in the virtual context of, say, watching a screen.Jeff attests to the fact that experiencing adventures with his family at Jungle Island results in him talking about it to friends, thus advertising by word-of-mouth. True enough, print has been taken over by word-of-mouth advertising, and in fact, businesses have been thanking many concierges in hotels and restaurants, given that their referrals and/or recommendations have become very valuable.
Mitchell asks how clients in a physical location like John’s business get a VIP experience, considering that people pay an extraordinary amount of money for it. John believes that it is all about enabling the client to maximize time, skip lines, get the highlights, and leave whenever they’re ready. People want to do things faster, and they pay more to get that.
